Chinese National Standard of ISSN Published

China Standard Serial Number, Part 2: ISSN (GB/T 9999.2-2018), The Chinese National Standard of ISSN, was just published in March 2018.
Since the Chinese National Standard China Standard Serial Numbering (GB/T 9999-2001, eqv ISO 3297:1998) was published in June 2002, the standard had not been revised for many years. In 2009, the China ISSN Center proposed to revised the standard, and the application was approved.
However, the drafting of the standard took much longer time than it was estimated. Finally, the revised standard was divided into two parts, with the first part for Chinese local management number (CN) and the second part for ISSN.
Based on the ISO 3297:2007, Information and Documentation -- International Standard Serial Number, the newly revised standard meets the needs for the ISSN numbers of electronic serials, and also clarifies the responsibilities of ISSN China Center.
As the director of the ISSN China Center, I began the revision of the standard in 2009, and I am glad to see the final result.

PEPRS, an interesting project for serials

During the ISSN GB Meeting last week in Paris, we discussed much about the PEPRS project. I think it is interesting for the future management of serials, including both printed and electronic versions.

ISSN GB Meeting held in Paris

The meeting of the Governing Board of the ISSN International Centre is being held today and tomorrow in Paris. There are 10 participants from 8 countries.

ISSN Directors' Meeting to be held in Beijing

Meeting of the Directors of ISSN National Centres will be held in National Library of China, Beijing, September 14-18, 2009, immediately after the centennial celebration of NLC.

ISSN China Centre begins to provide records to Ulrich

National Library of China (NLC) has just signed an agreement with ProQuest to provide bibliographic records of Chinese periodicals for inclusion in ProQuest's Ulrichsweb.com and in the Ulrich's Periodical Directory. The ISSN China Centre in NLC will submit about 12,000 records this year, and will submit about 1,000 new and updated records every year since 2008.

The cooperation between NLC and ProQuest will promote the internationalization of both Chinese periodicals publishing and Chinese library cataloging.

ISSN meetings held in Paris

Meetings of the Governing Board and the General Assembly of the ISSN International Centre were held in Paris during April 23-25, 2008. The 52nd GB meeting was held in the IC office on April 23, the 17th GA meeting was held in UNESCO House during April 24-25, and the 53rd meeting of the GB meeting was held in UNESCO House on April 25.

The meetings discussed financial statements, budget proposals and recent activities of the ISSN centres. A new Governing Board was elected, with China reelected and Vietnam and Tunisia newly elected. Ms. Susann Solberg from the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek (National Library of Germany) was elected as the new chair, and Tuula Haapamaki from Kansalliskirjasto (National Library of Finland) was elected as the new vice-chair.

The 2009 Directors meeting will be held in National Library of China, Beijing, China, in September, 2009.

Leaving for Paris

I am going to Paris next week for the GB and GA meetings of the ISSN International Centre. Before the meeting, I planned to visit BnF (Bibliothèque nationale de France, or the National Library of France), having a look at the building and discussing some issues for a project of the IFLA Cataloguing Section.

This will be my first time to Paris, even first time to Western Europe. Before then, I visited Denmark, Poland and Norway within the territory of Europe.
