In the past two years, I organized the Chinese translation of papers for the IFLA Cataloguing Section open programmes during the WLIC in Seoul and in Durban. There are 4 and 5 Chinese translations (including 2 for other sections last year) respectively for the Seoul and Durban conferences on the IFLANet (http://www.ifla.org).
This year, I called for volunteers to do the translation of papers for the Cataloguing Section and the Classification and Indexing Section. Plus translations of papers for other sections, I think there will be about 10 Chinese translations this year.
When I attended the IFLA Conference in Copenhagen in 1999, the Chinese delegation proposed to add Chinese as an IFLA working language. After seven years, we succeeded in 2006. We have Chinese version of
IFLA Express, Chinese simultaneous interpreters and Chinese translations of IFLA papers.
I worked for the
IFLA Express in 1996 in Beijing, volunteered to do some work for the Chinese version of
IFLA Express in 2006 in Seoul, organized the Chinese simultaneous interpretation in 2007 in Durban, and organized the Chinese translation of IFLA papers for the Cataloguing Section in 2006 and 2007. I think Chinese translation is very important for the IFLA awareness in China and for the internationalization of cataloging practices in China.
