Daily Life under the Shadow of the Virus

We began our long holiday on January 24 (Chinese lunar new year eve), and then the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) broke out.

The holiday was prolonged, and then we have to work at home.

I have been very busy, and didn't spend much time with my family. Now, I can spend time at home, and clean the rooms, repair electrical and plumbering equipments, read books, practice musical instruments, cook different dishes, etc., everyday.

Of course, the library is still closed.

I hope it will be better soon.

National Day Celebration

I spent the whole day at the Tian'anmen Square for the National Day celebration on October 1, 2019. I was very tired and needed several days to recover. The thousand-people Joint Military Band in the morning and the thousand-people joint orchestra in the evening were extremely impressive.

Fang Hua and its Trumpet Music

Fang Hua (Youth), a look at the lives of members of a Military Cultural Troupe in the 1970s, is a dram film newly released in December 2017.
In the film, there are many trumpet music pieces, such as Pyotr Tchaikovsky's Danse Neapolitaine, Irish tune The Last Rose of Summer, Alexander Goedicke's Concert Etude, and Liping Wang's Tuo Ling (Camel Bells).
The trumpet music is played by Huaibo Liu, a graduate student of the Central Convertory of Music of China, and also trumpeter of the China Philharmonic Orchestra. He uses the Fides Symphony Classic C trumpet.

The Bookworm and Music

The Bookworm and Music is a book containing essays, book reviews and other blog posts related to books and music. Also included are several essays by the friends from the brass band of the Xincheng School about the old stories during the 1970s.

It was published by the Dolphin-Books in November 2016. It also contains some illustrations by Mr. Ying HAN, one of my favorite illustrators.

The Howard University Choir visits Beijing

Today, I attended the performance of The Howard University Choir in the Embassy of the United States in Beijing. Among the music from the African American Experience, I like "St. Louis Blues" very much.
The choir consists of 16 members under the leadership of Dr. J. Weldon Norris.
