Updated Chinese Version of IFLA LRM Published in December 2025

The updated Chinese version of the IFLA LRM (Library Reference Model) was published at the IFLA repository: https://repository.ifla.org/handle/20.500.14598/42.2

As the consolidation of FRBR, FRAD and FRSAD, separate conceptual models respectively for bibliographic records, authority data and subject authority data, the IFLA LRM was published in August 2017, and the corresponding Chinese version was published in May 2020.

Later, the updated version, as amended and corrected through December 2021 by the Bibliographic Conceptual Models Review Group, was issued in July 2024.

Last year, Pat Riva remind me to do the updating of the document. When doing the updating, I also found some typos, mistakes and typesetting problems. So I spent a month to revise the document.

I am glad to see that it was finally published. I am also glad to see that my name appears in the document as a member of the FRBR Review Group.

National Library of China becomes National Institution Representative of RDA Board

Last week, I received a message from Simon Berney-Edwards, Director of Improvement and Development, CILIP, the library and information association, which is based in London. He told me that at the meeting of the RDA Board last week, the National Library of China was selected to be the National Institution Representative: Asia (To serve 2018-2020).
RDA is a continually evolving standard that aims to reflect the requirements of the description, cataloguing and metadata community. One of its original aims was to be applicable across cultures, sectors and perspectives.
RDA is a package of data elements, guidelines, and instructions for creating library and cultural heritage resource metadata that are well-formed according to international models for user-focused linked data applications.
The role of the representative is:
  • To provide RDA Board with insight about the impact, challenges and opportunities from the perspective of a national institution that has implemented RDA.
  • To provide any relevant feedback from other National Institutions in the region.
  • To contribute to the development and delivery of the RDA Board strategic plan for the development of RDA.
  • To contribute to the overall governance of the standard including oversight of strategy, delivery, finance and risks.

Metadata Resource Sharing among Publisher, Booksellers and Libraries

Today, Mr. YANG Wensheng, CEO of the Chinese Books in Print, visited National Library of China and discussed the possibility of cooperation between his company and cataloging librarians in NLC. Mr. Yang is responsible for some research projects related to standards in the publishing industry, such as ONIX application in China and a pre-publication bibliographic information standard. He is making efforts to realize metadata resource sharing among publishers, booksellers and library acquisitions and cataloging workflows.
